Company history

The Ethical Partnership was set up in 1998 as a Co-operative and went limited in 2001. As you can see below, the Directors have accumulated many years of experience in the financial services industry. We introduce the Directors as seen in the above photograph, starting from the left:
Jeremy Newbegin qualified as a Land Surveyor in 1971 and worked in Kenya, Cyprus, and Zambia before deciding on a career change in 1979. He started his new career at Sun Life of Canada, and went on to work at Standard Life and Sun Life Unit Services before joining New Life Investment Management Ltd in 1986. He was appointed Sales Director in 1987 and during this time he experienced his first foray into ethical investment as the company managed its own Ethical PEP and Ethical Discretionary Portfolio Management Service. He co-founded the ethical partnership in 1998 and in the same year he helped establish the Ethical Investment Association (EIA) working on the steering committee. Jeremy has the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate in Personal Savings & Investment. Jeremy has been married for thirty two years, has three grown up children and is passionate about ethical and environmental issues.
Michael Marsden joined the financial services industry in 1984 working in the South West of England and in 1987 moved to Southampton where he was appointed Branch Sales Manager of the Investment and Pensions arm of Britannia Building Society, Britannia Life. He has been an Independent Financial Adviser for nearly 20 years and has clients throughout the UK. In 2009, Michael took over the servicing of former director, John Morton's clients (now retired) in the South West of England, this was an easy decision for John, as Mike has already a strong client base in Devon and Cornwall where he is from originally. Michael joined the ethical partnership as a Director in 2005. He has extensive experience in providing bespoke financial planning advice for both Personal and Corporate Clients. Michael is also qualified by examination with the Certificate of Mortgage Practice (CeMAP) by the Institute of Banking to enable him to provide expert mortgage advice and also the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate Examination (F10) in Taxation and Trusts by the Chartered Insurance Institute. Michael has been married for over thirty years, has two grown up children and is passionate about his family. His son is lead guitarist and vocalist in the Band of Skulls.
Gregory Braithwaite, like all our directors, is passionate about providing a caring and professional service in the best interest of his clients. He joined the industry straight from school in October 1978 at Sun Life starting in their new business branch; later moving to a department dealing with exiting years he moved to work with an Independent Financial Advisor, initially as the technical support progressing to directly advising clients which he has been doing successfully for over 13 years. Gregory joined The Ethical Partnership in September 2000. Gregory holds the higher qualifications in Mortgage Advice, Personal Taxation and Pension Planning, however he does not believe in baffling clients with jargon but explains plans in a down to earth and practical way. Gregory is married and has three children which gives him a passion to encourage parents of young children to make sure they have sufficient life assurance protection as part of their financial planning.
Simon Kirkup graduated from University with an Honours Degree in Agriculture and became a Farmer. In 1991 he too decided on a career change and joined the Pearl before becoming an independent financial adviser in 1997, working for Ethical Financial Ltd. He co-founded the ethical partnership in 1998, and also helped establish the Ethical Investment Association (EIA) in the same year. He has advanced qualifications in Home Reversion and Equity Release Schemes, Mortgage Advice, Lifetime Mortgages, and Taxation and Trusts. He has been married for over thirty years and has two grown up sons. He is an active member of the local Rotary Club.
John Morton, a founding Director, retired in 2009, but his clients continue to be serviced by the company.
